SHELBY AUTOMOBILES SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH STEPHEN BECKER TO OPEN COBRA DEALERSHIP

LAS VEGAS – Nov. 2, 2007 - Shelby Automobiles, Inc., and Stephen Becker Automotive Group have signed an agreement that will allow Planet Cobra, a Georgia new car Shelby dealership based in Suwanee, Ga., to open in November 2007. The dealership will sell authentic new and collector Shelby Cobras, as well as support Shelby parts and restoration programs and merchandise sales for enthusiasts and collectors across the nation.

“Stephen is both an entrepreneur and recognized Shelby expert,” said Amy Boylan, President of Shelby Automobiles, Inc. “He understands our philosophy of building high performance vehicles and has worked closely with Carroll over the years. As a result, Stephen has developed a solid understanding of what it takes to run a successful dealership in this competitive world of collectible performance vehicles.”

Becker opened his first Shelby parts business in 1978 at just 11-years-old. Since that time, he has become well known for his expertise and knowledge of vintage and collector Shelby vehicles. His new store, Planet Cobra, will become the first authorized Shelby dealership in the Southeast to offer new Shelby Cobras and Shelby-licensed merchandise including apparel and parts. The Planet Cobra online store will also serve as a resource for Shelby collectors and enthusiasts to trade or find rare or collectible Shelby Cobras and Mustangs.

“I look forward to working with the group at Shelby Autos,” noted Becker. “I have a great deal of respect for what they have accomplished and am proud to be part of their team. Our goal at Planet Cobra is to offer the latest performance vehicles rolling out of Vegas and be a trusted resource for collectors who want a vintage Shelby car. I have several Cobras on order and am excited to open our doors. With the enormous demand for authentic Shelby vehicles, the opening of Plant Cobra couldn’t have come at a better time.”

The agreement for Planet Cobra was finalized in July 2007. Construction on the dealership will begin in the first quarter of 2008 with the facility expected to open in the third quarter of 2008.

SHELBY AUTOS UNVEILS TERLINGUA RACING TEAM PROGRAM

LAS VEGAS – Oct. 31, 2007 - In April of this year, Shelby Automobiles, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK) and legendary Terlingua Team member # 2 Bill Neale returned the Terlingua Racing Team to the spotlight. Today the Terlingua team announced a series of vehicles and products for the grassroots racing community that live up to the Terlingua Racing legend. Ranging from a high performance package for Ford Mustangs to special edition Shelby Cobra, the program was introduced during a press conference at the 2007 SEMA show.

“We formed the Shelby Terlingua Racing Team to thumb our nose at the stubborn, old racing establishment, win races and more importantly have fun,” noted Shelby Automobiles Founder Carroll Shelby. “That rowdy lifestyle became as popular as the cars we raced. In fact, our ‘bunny’ appealed to more people than those at the Playboy mansion. Now we’re passing the Terlingua Racing Team torch to new generation with products and vehicle packages that bring back that anti-establishment attitude so they can carve out their own legends.”

During the press conference, Mr. Neale and the Shelby Automobiles team unveiled three vehicles that had been brought up to Terlingua Racing Team specifications. A 2008 V6 Ford Mustang, a 1965 427 Shelby Cobra and a 1967 Ford Mustang were displayed in Terlingua state of tune.

The Terlingua Racing Team package for the V6 Ford Mustang includes serious performance enhancements and striking visual cues. The hot rod features significant improvements to the handling and braking capabilities that were developed with partners like Ford Racing; an optional supercharger will crank out 375 horsepower. The coupe sports a deep draw hood, 20″ anthracite “Razor” wheels and a host styling changes including the famous Terlingua rabbit. The package will be applied, with a Shelby serial number, by official factory mod shops including the one at Shelby’s Las Vegas facility. The retail base package price is estimated at about $7,995.

“We wanted to create a V6 Terlingua Racing Team Mustang to offer young people a big bang for their buck,” added Bill Neale. “With its great power-to-weight ratio and superior handling, the car is perfect for drifting, drag racing and lapping the road course. The entry level car will give more people an opportunity to enjoy the thrill of competition.”

For “old school” Terlingua Racing Team fans, Shelby Automobiles and Neale also introduced a 1967 Terlingua continuation model Mustang that was revamped with modern technology. On the exterior, the car looks like the vintage 1967 Trans Am race car driven by Jerry Titus and Ken Miles; under the sheet metal, it is serious new age performance. From the authentic paint scheme to the 525 horsepower 408 c.i.d engine, the car is all business. Each will receive a Shelby serial number that will be registered in an official Shelby Automobiles registry.

“Because every Shelby car and product we build has a bit of Cobra DNA in it, we’re working on a Terlingua Racing Team package for 427 and 289 Cobras,” explained Shelby Automobiles President Amy Boylan. “We’re developing a special package that will turn up the performance a notch as well. We’ll announce the final content and pricing on these models by Carroll’s birthday in January 2008.”

The Terlingua Racing Team story is the stuff of legend. Its roots began when Ford Motor Company asked Carroll Shelby to turn its Mustang into a race winner. His team succeeded with a competition version of the Shelby GT350. About that time, Shelby and a few friends were enjoying “the Rat Pack” lifestyle in the Texas ghost town of Terlingua. Their parties and competitive attitude are legendary as they had everyone from Pancho Villa to Steve McQueen to join the group. To symbolize their philosophy, Neale designed “Lucifer”, the black and yellow a logo with a rabbit holding his paw in the air.

Ken Miles was the first to put the ‘prancing rabbit’ in the winner’s circle a victory at Green Valley Raceway in 1965. When the logo became a “Gawdawful Yellow” livery for the 1967 Shelby Trans Am car, the philosophy really caught fire. When Shelby ceased production in 1970, drivers put the heraldry on other vehicles.

“In addition to the Terlingua Racing Team packages, we plan to offer parts, memorabilia, licensed goods and organize special events,” noted Ms. Boylan. “We’re going to thumb our nose again at the seriousness of racing and give young drag racers, drifters and road racers a way to have their fair share of the fun.”

NEW CAR CLUB “TEAM SHELBY” TO MOVE OWNERS AND FANS INTO THE FAST LANE

LAS VEGAS – Oct. 31, 2007 - The legendary Carroll Shelby is creating a new community for enthusiasts of the cars built by his companies. Based in Detroit, “Team Shelby,” is the only club officially recognized by the factory for all vehicles built by Shelby, including 2006 and newer Shelby based Mustangs. The club will officially launch on January 11, 2008, which is Mr. Shelby’s 85th birthday.

“People have asked me for years to form a club that will help them really enjoy their Shelby car,” said Carroll Shelby, Founder and CEO of Shelby Automobiles. “There’s a new generation of cars, new faces at Shelby and people who want to enjoy their vehicle in new ways. The world has changed over the past 42 years, so we need a club to meet the needs of this new generation. We want to knit together those people with owners of early Shelbys and give everyone new ways to have fun with their high performance vehicle.”

Mr. Shelby imagined a place where owners could talk about their latest conquests at the track, swap E.T’s and learn new ways to hot rod their cars. He wanted to link all of those enthusiasts into one “dream garage” populated with Super Snakes, Hertz cars, Cobra’s, supercharged Shelby GT’s, Mustang GT’s with Shelby performance parts, Series 1’s, GLH’s, Vipers and GT500’s. Thus, Team Shelby was born.

“We’re experts at creating winning teams by combining our strengths with those of others who have unique talents and skills,” said Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles. “So we took the same approach to create Team Shelby. It didn’t make sense for us to form and operate a club on our own, so we looked for a partner who was a true enthusiast and capable of creating an organization that would give all its members real value. That led us to the S197 Shelby Owners Association.”

Robert Lane and Sharon Elliot founded the S197 Shelby Owners Association in early 2007. After meeting with Boylan, they evolved their organization into Team Shelby (www.TeamShelby.com). It is designed and engineered by real enthusiasts inside and out of Shelby. And just as the Shelby team relies on the latest technology to build their cars and products, Team Shelby will be at the forefront of the latest innovations.

“We’re developing a Web site with member only areas that have videos, forums, podcasts, exclusive news and insights straight from the factory,” added Robert Lane. “And we’re planning simulcasts briefings with Carroll and other key Shelby execs through the site. Plus, we’ll invite Ford and other Shelby partners to communicate with our club members through it. This will enhance the sense of community and give team members the first crack at Shelby news, products and events.”

Team Shelby is not a “virtual club” the group will design and distribute a quarterly e-newsletter and is planning a full compliment of events such as tours of the Ford and Shelby facilities, a 40th anniversary GT500KR reunion, track days, Hertz reunion and other events. Membership includes official Shelby gear and an opportunity to learn more about the development of cars. Anyone can join Team Shelby on line for only $49.95 and receive benefits including:

  • First news on all of the products and vehicles coming out of Shelby
  • Exclusive access to members only areas of the Club web site
  • Quarterly club publication
  • Official Team Shelby T-shirt
  • Two official club decals
  • Shelby Commemorative magazine
  • Shelby Key chain
  • Two official membership cards
  • Shelby Performance Parts catalog and discount on all parts

While interest in current generation Shelbys cars was the foundation for the club, ownership of a Shelby is not required to be a member. The club is dedicated to serving all Shelby enthusiasts past and present including those that own cars built in the 1960’s and non-Ford powered vehicles.

“We built Team Shelby for anyone who is passionate about Shelby cars,” added Carroll Shelby. “I’m member #001 and anyone who wants to have fun should join, whether or not they own a Shelby car. I’d love to see GT500’s on the track with the high strung GLH’s and limited edition Series 1 cars. We’ll have a blast and we’ll do it the Shelby way.”

CARROLL SHELBY’S PERSONAL 1969 GT500 MUSTANGS TO BE SOLD AT 2008 BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION

SCOTTSDALE – Oct. 29, 2007 - Carroll Shelby’s personal 1969 Shelby GT500 convertible will be sold at No Reserve during the 37th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event on Jan. 12-20, 2008, in Scottsdale, Ariz. The car has been owned by Mr. Shelby since it was built and is the only Shelby Mustang he has owned continually since it rolled off the assembly line.

“This Shelby GT500 has been part of Carroll Shelby’s personal stable for almost 40 years,” said Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis, also a renowned Shelby expert. “It is a well documented car that Carroll drove extensively. I believe the only other Shelby automobile that he’s owned longer than this GT500 is the first Cobra, CSX2000. That fact makes this ’69 GT500 a rare piece of automotive history that the serious, savvy collector will appreciate.”

Mr. Shelby is scheduled to attend the auction and hand the keys to the convertible to the new owner personally. In January 2007, the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company sold the only 427 Shelby Cobra built specifically for Carroll in Scottsdale, as well as the first 2007 Shelby GT.

One of only 246 Ford Shelby GT500 convertibles built in 1969, Mr. Shelby’s personal red 428 c.i.d. Cobra Jet powered car has only 69,725 miles and came originally equipped with automatic transmission, GT equipment group, white interior and top, intermittent wipers, power steering, power brakes, tilt steering, factory A/C, AM-FM stereo radio, tachometer and trip odometer.

The car recently was restored under the direction of Stephen Becker. A world-renowned collector and broker of vintage Shelby Cobras, GT350s and GT500s, his expertise have been tapped by enthusiasts worldwide to rebuild, locate, purchase, consign and restore original Shelbys.

Becker engaged well known and respected Shelby restorer Jim Cowles at Shelby Parts & Restoration in Green Bay, Wisc., to complete a Concours rotisserie freshening of the car for Mr. Shelby personally. Every mechanical piece, from the C6 automatic transmission to the front disc brakes and 9″ rear end was restored, refinished, rebuilt or replaced with NOS parts. The body was repainted and every cosmetic component including the functional ram-air scoop, side ducts and style bar was refurbished to return the GT500 back to 1969 condition.

The car was originally built as a white car with blue stripes. Though Mr. Shelby wanted a red car, production of GT500’s had ended by the time he received the car from the Shelby Automotive corporate car-pool. Thus, he authorized the convertible to be sent back thru the Shelby facility and re-painted red with white stripe before he took possession of it. He replaced the original Shelby 5 spoke wheels with Shelby 10 spoke ones from his Shelby Wheel Company.

Shelby also installed supplemental electric fuel pump in the trunk with a toggle switch mounted on the driver’s side dash; the switch was from one of the original Daytona coupes. Carroll put a set of COBRA LeMans valve covers, a Shelby sold chrome air-cleaner and the proto-type “big block” COBRA T-oil pan on the car to demonstrate parts form his catalog.

“This car has many unusual bits of equipment,” added Becker. “For instance, Carroll’s team at Shelby American painted the engine block red when they rebuilt it instead of the original Ford blue to show that he did it himself. Most importantly, the original title is still in Carroll’s name and will be signed over to the new owner at the sale by Shelby himself.”

The car is slotted to be sold on Saturday evening, January 20, between 3 and 7 p.m. The auction will be broadcast live by the Speed Channel. Additional information about the car is available at www.barrett-jackson.com.
