SHELBY AMERICAN COMMEMORATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF ICONIC BIG BLOCK COBRA WITH SPECIAL EDITION ROADSTER

LAS VEGAS – Dec. 30, 2014Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the big block Cobra by offering 50 limited edition versions of the iconic roadster. Each continuation Cobra will be painted Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes, equipped with a premium black leather interior and other special touches. The 50th Anniversary 427 Shelby Cobra will debut at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., beginning January 12, 2015.

Cobra1The big block Shelby Cobra changed the way the world viewed American manufacturers when Carroll Shelby introduced it in January 1965,” said Joe Conway, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Shelby American. “While the small block cars were successful, the all new FE-powered Cobra took everything to the extreme. Far more powerful and sophisticated, the big block Cobra represented the bold American spirit. Shelby American’s goal was to create the world’s first hyper car and the Cobra lived up to its potential.”

Shelby American built the big block Cobras specifically to conquer all other sports cars, both American-made and European. With an all new coil spring independent suspension, larger passenger compartment, upgraded brakes, wider track, fatter tires and a big block Ford engine, the Cobra rocked the world. In its first year of production, the big block Cobra captured the SCCA’s coveted “A Production” championship. The Cobras also ran rampant in sanctioned drag racing series nationwide.

Cobra2“The 427 Cobra is the purest expression of Carroll Shelby’s vision of a performance car,” said Akos J. Feher, Shelby American Vice President of Operations. “He believed in combining big horsepower with inspired engineering. The big block Cobra featured an all new coil over suspension that would allow the lightweight frame to handle a powerful American big block engine. The car just exudes masculinity. The Cobra’s ‘no holds barred’ attitude is still part of the DNA of every car we build today.”

The anniversary Shelby Cobras are component vehicles that can be finished by a customer or an authorized dealer. Each car is built to order and delivered as a rolling chassis, less drive train, with a 1965 MSO. The 427 Shelby Cobras retain everything from the authentic style suspension to the graceful body lines, but are upgraded to contemporary standards. Shelby American uses the same leather that one would find in high end cars, modern brake discs, a stronger frame and the bodies are available in either aluminum or fiberglass.

The 50th Anniversary Editions (serial numbers CSX4500 to CSX4599) have some unique differences. Special badges adorn the exterior and interior. Premium materials are used on the seats, carpets and dash. A 23 gallon racing style fuel tank, powder coated frame, racing brakes and custom gauges are standard. The paint/stripe schemes are unique and a special optional engine package is being developed by the Shelby Engine Company.

“Genuine Shelby Cobras are very rare and desirable,” said Gary Patterson, Shelby American Vice President of Strategic Sales and Media Relations. “We wanted to honor Cobra’s unique heritage, while incorporating a few upgrades that Carroll personally approved before his death in 2012. These 50 limited edition cars keep the flame sparked by the race-winning Cobras burning bright. There just isn’t anything like a real Shelby Cobra.”

The 50th Anniversary 427 Cobra will begin at $119,995 for a fiberglass or $179,995 for an aluminum bodied car, without drive train. Each will be documented in the ‘World Registry’ alongside the original 343 built by Shelby American in the 1960s. Cobras can be purchased through one of Shelby American’s dealers. Information about the cars can be found at http://www.shelbyamerican.com/50th427cobra.asp or by calling (702) 942-7325.

Each exciting film features one of the three genuine Shelby models that can be built-to-order from Planet Cobra. Planet Cobra’s videos include exclusive, rare footage of the cars being piloted by Shelby American factory test driver Gary Patterson at the Las Vegas campus.

“The Shelby Cobra is the most iconic sports car of all time,” said Stephen Becker, president and CEO of Planet Cobra. “Our new series of online videos outlines a general history of the Shelbys, demonstrates their capabilities and provides facts to help collectors differentiate between the real deal and the many fakes. The videos educate and show enthusiasts how to find the Cobra of their dreams.”

Planet Cobra delivers Shelby Cobras that are a continuation of those built by Shelby American in the 1960’s. The current line-up includes the Cobra 427 (CSX4000/6000), 289 FIA (CSX7000) and street car (CSX8000) component vehicles. Cobras are available for order in either fiberglass or aluminum body.

Purchased from the Shelby factory in Las Vegas, each Cobra is entered into Shelby American’s registry and photographed during the construction. The vehicles are then shipped by Shelby American to Planet Cobra where customers can choose to have the company’s experts add a proper drive train before delivery anywhere around the globe.

“People often ask me why they should buy a genuine Shelby instead of a replica or fake,” said Gary Patterson, vice president of operations for Shelby American. “So I ask them if they gave their wife a cubic zirconium ring or prefer to wear a Rolex knock-off. There’s value and enjoyment in owning the real deal.”

Founded by Stephen Becker, one of the world’s foremost experts in Shelby cars, Planet Cobra is among the most elite dealers in the world. In addition to offering the genuine big block, street and FIA Cobra, Planet Cobra can deliver a continuation Shelby Daytona Coupe or Shelby edition GT40. The cars are available as component rollers or completed by one of Planet Cobra’s experts.

“Owning a real Shelby Cobra is one of the most exhilarating and satisfying experiences that a car enthusiast or collector will ever enjoy,” added Becker. “And we pride ourselves on making the process of buying a Cobra as much fun as it is to drive one.”

Unrestored Shelby Cobra Auction Price Outperforms Gold Market Five Fold

ATLANTA – March 2011 – Auctions America by RM posted $17,248,846 in total sales at its annual Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale auction event last weekend. The top seller, a barn-find 1963 Shelby Cobra (chassis no. CSX 2080), changed hands for $467,500 and represents a unique opportunity to make a direct comparison between the rise in a collector cars value and that of a traded commodity – gold.

The matching-numbers CSX 2080, the fifth 289 Cobra built, was purchased by its second private owner in 1981 with $30,000 worth of gold coins. The cumulative average market gold price that year was $460 per ounce. The car was driven only once by its new owner and then parked for the next 30 years, leaving it in very original, unrestored condition for its appearance on the auction podium in Fort Lauderdale.

Since 1981 gold values have fluctuated, but have steadily been on the rise over the last decade and reached an all-time high on March 2, 2011, closing at $1,437.20 per ounce. Based on the current gold market, the original investment of gold coins has more than tripled in value and would be worth approximately $93,730 today. The $467,500 selling price of CSX 2080 represents an increase of about 15 times the original purchase price of $30,000 and outperforms the gold market five times over.

“Recently the media has explored the value of collector cars as more than just items to drive and enjoy as a hobby. There is strong potential for beautiful and rare automobiles as tangible assets to offer good returns on a collectors investment,” stated Donnie Gould, President, Auctions America by RM.

“To avoid disappointment we always counsel our clients to research potential purchases well and, above all else, buy cars that they are truly passionate about,” added Gould.

Presenting all categories and genres of motor cars, the 2011 Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale event saw a total of 498 automobiles go under the hammer with a 68 percent sell through rate. Registered bidders representing 15 different countries participated in the auction onsite, on the phone and over the Internet.

Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale Top 5 Sales:

1963 Shelby Cobra, CSX 2080: $467,500
1932 Duesenberg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton, Engine no. J315: $440,000
1957 Desoto Adventurer: $187,000
1995 Batmobile from the film Batman Forever: $165,000

The Anniversary Shelby Cobra was unveiled to journalists during the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. The entire run of cars was snapped up when the announcement was made public in an official news release.

“The strong demand for these cars proves that the Shelby Cobra is still as desirable and sought after today as it was 50 years ago,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “People who didn’t have the opportunity to buy one in the 1960s jumped at the chance to own one of these very special collector’s edition Shelby’s. Although the entire factory allocation has been spoken for, a few of these anniversary cars are still available from our Shelby Cobra dealers who seized the opportunity and bought multiple cars.”

Shelby American ceased manufacturing the original small block Cobra in 1965. In 1996, Carroll Shelby returned it to the streets as the CSX8000 continuation series Shelby Cobra. The cars incorporate safety and performance improvements without sacrificing originality. The Cobras retain the authentic style leaf spring suspension but are upgraded to contemporary standards while the bodies are available in aluminum or fiberglass. Cobras can be ordered from an official Shelby Cobra dealer. TWO COBRAS SELL FOR $4.35M ACCORDING TO REPORT

ATLANTA –January 7, 2009 - According to Hagerty’s Cars That Matter, two Shelby Cobras have sold for over $4.35M during the first weekend in January 2009, further solidifying the Shelby brand and the investment value of the Cobra.

“The first weekend of the New Year saw a reported world record price for a 427 SC Cobra at auction plus a ‘no surprise’ price on a well turned out 289. The 427 SC Cobra, CSX 3021, was offered to the sale as the first 427 SC Cobra built and sold for a reported $3,780,000 at auction in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on January 3rd. This is said to be a world-record price for an open Cobra without race history and when verified, will fill the record book on many scores,” Cars That Matter reports.

The article further noted that, “the gold-colored 427 SC, one of only two built in that color, was also featured on the Cobra Caravan, a Shelby roadshow when the car was new. Said to be a one owner car with just 3,800 miles, it was presented at auction late in the sale on Saturday evening where it sold to a buyer in attendance at the event, held in the War Memorial Auditorium. The same bidder also reportedly bought CSX 2311 for $572,400. This dark green 289 featured some unusual options including dual carbs, painted and not chromed wire wheels and an original Cobra radio. Phone calls and an email sent to the auction sponsor and the auction company, Hollywood Wheels Auctions and Shows, have not been returned at this time.”
